Meeting Change for April 2013

Hi Everyone,  Quilter's Paradise needed to change our April Meeting from Saturday, April 27 to  Sunday, April 28 from 12:00 to 4:00!

Also, I want to thank Ronda for stepping up to do our Facebook page!

FMQG MEETING SCHEDULE

 Hello Everyone,

Thanks to Shirley and Joan for coming to check us out at our October meeting!  We sure hope you sign up as members!  We enjoyed having you!

Just a reminder - there will be NO MEETING IN NOVEMBER!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Our next meeting will be Saturday, December 8 from 2:00 - 5:00 @ Quilter's Paradise

And, we'll have a PIN CUSHION SWAP!  So, anyone who wants to participate bring their pin cushion in a brown paper bag!  Also, QP's sells crushed walnut shells for $1.75 a bag as filler for your pin cushion - it works great!

Also, if any of you have some fabric that you no longer love, bring it with you and we'll have a FABRIC SWAP, too!  Whatever fabric is left over, Jackie will take it to use for Senior Quilts!

BRING ANY QUILT BOOKS you might think we'd enjoy paging through while we're quilting!  QP's had some books available for us last time and they were enjoyable to look through and talk about!

Hi Everyone,

We want to thank Carol for her demo at our September meeting on her "wavy" fabric quilt technique - such a cool technique!  And, as with any creative endeavor, Carol's demo sparked all kinds of creative thinking and sharing of ideas!  Gotta love it!

Karen showcased her quilt this month!  Check out her awesome color palate!  Beautiful quilt!  Don't forget and bring quilts to share to the meeting - we support bragging rights!

Our October swap will be any item you'd like to make - mug rug, place mat, cell phone holder - with a Autumn or Halloween theme!  Place it in a paper bag and we'll do a member "grab" with everyone that participates!

Our membership has grown to 27, and it's so much fun to walk into Quilter's Paradise every month and see our members, along with new faces!  Thanks to everyone who brings so much creativity, friendship and fun to our guild!

FMQG August Meeting

Our August meeting had the best turnout yet!  Welcome to all our new members, and don't forget to "join" on this blog!

Karen has volunteered to create our Facebook page, and it's already up and running!  So, check it out and "like", "comment" and "recommend" us to the social community!  Thanks, Karen!

We will be having a Mug Rug Swap at our next meeting, September 22!  Karen has posted two tutorials on our Facebook page!  I just finished my Mug Rug using one of the tutorials and it was fun and easy!  Bring your finished Mug Rug in a paper bag to our meeting and everyone who made one will leave with one!

Also, Carol will be demonstrating her "Wavy Glue n' Flip" technique!  I hope the title has peeked your interest because it makes for a very cool quilt effect!

Barbara @ Quilter's Paradise has told me that if any members would like to recommend any quilt books, she would be happy to order them for us!  Quilter's is so happy to have us as part of their quilt community, and we are so grateful to them for providing us the space to grow!

JULY QUILT GET TOGETHER!

We had such a great turnout at our July quilt gathering!  A big thanks to Karen and Jessica, who drove over from Hanford, and to Andrea to made the journey from Auberry!  We hope you'll be back!  Lots of wonderful quilts being crafted with gorgeous fabric combinations! Take a look at Norma's inspiring quilt!  A beautiful, inspiring, creation!

I was able to get together with Barbara at Quilter's Paradise and schedule our meetings for the rest of the year!  QP is doing the best they can to incorporate our schedule into theirs, since they are an amazingly busy store!  So, I want to thank Barbara for QP"s desire to have the Fresno Modern Quilt Guild be a part of their quilting community!

FMQG Next Meeting - Saturday, July 7 - 3:00pm-5:00 @ Quilter's Paradise, Old Town Clovis

Looking forward to seeing you!  Bring a snack and your project!  Our quilt-alongs have been fun and encouraging!  No matter what level of quilter you are, we guarantee an afternoon of camaraderie and creativity!

 I had the opportunity to spend five days with my quilt buddy, Diane, in Moorpark a couple of weeks ago!  And, drum roll, please - I completed a quilt!  However, I won't be able to share it at our get-together, since I sent it out to be quilted!

 The above "travel addiction" quilt was made by Vickie, a Los Angeles Modern Quilt Guild member!  It was raffled off at the Moorpark Women's Fortnightly Club!  What a luck winner!  I am so jealous!

 While I was working hard on my batik quilt, Diane was making the cutest Cat in the Hat quilt for a friend's baby shower!  She had the hardest time quilting around her kitty, Scout! 

 Thanks, Diane, for all of your patient mentoring and your dear friendship!

Since we have had such a small turnout at our monthly meetings, we will determine at this meeting if we should move forward with our guild or discontinue our efforts.

Our next meeting will be this Sunday from 1:30 - 4:00 at Quilter's Paradise!  Bring your quilt project(s), quilts to show, and a snack to share if you desire!

If you have any stash fabrics that you're tired of or don't think you will use, bring them to swap!

Next Meeting, SUNDAY, March 25 th - 1:30 - 4:00pm

Our next meeting will be "less meeting and more quilting fun"! It is also "double punch" day at Quilter's Paradise!

So, bring your quilting project and sewing machine and we'll have a good time!  If you would like to bring a snack to share, feel free!

The Clovis Antique Show is that weekend, so Pollasky St. won't be available for parking.  QP's told me that we can go down the one-way alley, the wrong way, and park in their parking lot!  Just be careful!

Springtime in the Valley Quilt Show will be Saturday and Sunday, March 24th and 25th from 10:00am - 4:00pm at The Golden Palace - 2625 W. Vassar Ave., Fresno. The show will include over 200 quilts and wearable arts by local San Joaquin Valley residents!

The Modern Quilt Guild will be having it's very first quilt show - Quilt Con! It will be in Austin, TX, February 21-24, 2013.  More info at www.quiltcon.com.

Also, I am putting together a Member Directory, so if you would send me your email address and phone number, I can have it ready for our March meeting!

February Meeting of The Fresno Modern Quilt Guild

Where Does Our Inspiration Come From?

This is the question we will be asking ourselves before our next meeting!

I thought I'd share a little bit about what inspires me, but first I was curious to read some definitions of inspiration and I really liked this one:  stimulation of the mind or emotions to a high level of feeling or activity. 

For me, that's being out in nature! It's walking down a gravel path, listening to the "crunch" under my feet, then looking down and seeing the texture and color of all the pebbles.  It's walking past a rosebush and seeing the symmetry of the petals circling toward the tight bud at the center.  Anytime I'm near water, I get a rush of creative thought!  Be it a stream, a waterfall, a lake, the ocean or a water feature in someone's backyard, the movement of water brings beautiful patterns to my mind! 


Funny thing, that while I'm "waxing poetic" about how nature inspires me, I found inspiration for my next quilt in an unexpected place  - the Crate and Barrel catalog!  It's always fun to be creatively surprised, isn't it?


Please take a moment before our next meeting and post below what inspires you! It will benefit us all to wrap our right brains around new ways of creative thought!


Bring your thoughts and ideas with you to our next meeting and share your creative process! This just maybe the framework for our swap!


Also, bring a pattern idea with you, so we can talk about a quilt-along!

First Meeting of Fresno Modern Quilt Guild!

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for attending our very first meeting!  It was great to meet all of you, exchange ideas, and share quilts! So much creativity and inspiration!

Nine of us showed up for the meeting, and as of today we have 14 members!  Fun to see us growing!

Thanks to Alyce and Rene for stepping up to help me with the blogspot and the Modern Quilt Guild discussion group!

OUR FIRST GUILD MEETING AT QUILTER'S PARADISE!

Hi Everyone,

Well, we've hit our first milestone!  We've found a home at Quilter's Paradise!

Kathy, Barbara and Colette are thrilled to have us and our supportive of our growth as The Fresno Modern Quilt Guild!

Our first meeting will be Saturday, January 28 from 3:00 - 4:00.  Also, February 25 and March 24 from 3:00- 4:00.  So put them on your calendars.  I know that one hour will not be enough down the road, but know that QP will work with us regarding our time allotment!

I'm going to call our first meeting "Blue Sky", because it invokes the feeling I'd like this meeting to have!

In otherwards, "wide open"!  I will have a loose agenda that I will send to you sometime before our meeting, but I would really like us to just talk, throw out ideas, and get to know one another!

 Afterall, it's OUR guild to create the experiences we want to have in our quilting lives!

Please bring quilts to share, if you'd like to!

Can't wait to meet you all!
